Israel imposes strict travel ban on 50 Africans and other countries :  Israel has imposed travel bans on 50 African countries and other countries following the discovery of a new species of covid omikron. The ban will take effect from midnight on Sunday.

Israel on Sunday (November 28th) approved the use of controversial technology for contact tracing in an effort to restrict the entry of foreign nationals and tighten policy on new coronavirus species.

The Israeli Ministry of Health has given the Coronavirus Council of Ministers more authority to take measures, including red-listed travel to 50 African countries, banning the entry of foreigners and making quarantine mandatory for all Israelis coming from abroad.

It also endorsed the use of the Shin Bet Internal Security Agency’s controversial mobile phone surveillance technology to detect contacts of people confirmed with the new omikron species of coronavirus in Israel.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has signed an emergency regulation to make it effective. Foreigners from most African states were banned from traveling on Friday.

On Saturday, Israel said it had discovered a new species of corona in a passenger returning from Malawi and was investigating seven other suspected cases. Three of the seven were vaccinated, all of whom were kept in isolation, ABCNews reported.
